چکیده

In the last decade an increasing number of farmers worldwide have adopted the technique of ammoniation as a means of increasing the utilisation of roughages by ruminants, Our work has identified problems with ammoniation which are similar to those encountered with ammoniated molasses in the 1950%. Since July 1984 there have been several outbreaks of hyperexcitability in cattle fed ammoniated roughages at the University of New England. Characteristically the animals have sudden outbreaks of galloping in circles and colliding with other animals or fences.

Evaluation of the Nutritional Value of Ammoniated Wheat Straw by Anhydrous Ammonia in Fattening Calves Feeding

Extended Abstract Introduction and Objective: Processing of agricultural by-products for animal feed can upgrade the supply of animal feed without increasing the current production and only by improving productivity via enhancing energy efficiency and maintaining it in the food supply chain, and at the same time, diminish the concerns of waste management, food security, resource constraints, a...

Ammoniation of corn contaminated with aflatoxin and its effects on growing rats.

Corn naturally contaminated with 2,000 ppb total aflatoxin was adjusted to 17% moisture and ammoniated (Am) with 1.5% (w/w) anhydrous ammonia in an attempt at detoxification. The ammonia treatment reduced the detectable concentration to 510 ppb total aflatoxins. Ninety-six male Sprague-Dawley rats (75 g avg) were randomly divided into eight treatment groups with 12 rats per treatment. A fortifi...

Protein Supplementation of Ammoniated Roughages. II. Wheat Straw Supplemented with Alfalfa, Blood Meal or Soybean Meal Fed to Wintering Steers

Two winter steer growth trials were conducted to investigate responses of steer calves to ammoniation of wheat straw, level of alfalfa haylage (50 or 66.7% of diet) and source of supplemental protein, soybean meal (SBM), blood meal (BM), or a blood meal-urea mixture (BM-U). In trial 1, the main effect of arnmoniation significantly increased average daily gain (ADG) from .15 t o .24 kgld, dry ma...

Tools for Defusing a Major Global Food and Feed Safety Risk: Nonbiological Postharvest Procedures To Decontaminate Mycotoxins in Foods and Feeds.

Mycotoxin contamination of foods and animal feeds is a worldwide problem for human and animal health. Controlling mycotoxin contamination has drawn the attention of scientists and other food and feed stakeholders all over the world. Despite best efforts targeting field and storage preventive measures, environmental conditions can still lead to mycotoxin contamination. This raises a need for dev...

Fibrolytic enzyme and ammonia application effects on the nutritive value, intake, and digestion kinetics of bermudagrass hay in beef cattle.

The objectives were to compare the effect of exogenous fibrolytic enzyme (Biocellulase A20) or anhydrous ammonia (4% DM) treatment on the nutritive value, voluntary intake, and digestion kinetics of bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon cultivar Coastal) hay harvested after 2 maturities (5- and 13-wk regrowths). Six individually housed, ruminally cannulated Brangus steers (BW 325 ± 10 kg) were used in...
